How we verify businesses
What we publish, where it comes from and what we check by hand. Each card shows its source and date.
Two kinds of listings
- From OpenStreetMap (143). We downloaded the public data from OpenStreetMap, the free community map, on Oct 29, 2026, and kept only the businesses inside each town's limits. We do not check these listings one by one with the business: the date on the card is the download date, and the source links to the OpenStreetMap entry, which anyone can correct.
- Checked by hand (39). We check the name, address and phone on a public source of the business itself: its website, its Facebook or Instagram page, or its Yelp or Booksy listing. The card shows which source and the day we checked it. Today: 38 on the business website, 1 on Facebook.
- If a business shows up in both, the hand-checked listing wins, field by field, with no duplicates.
Which sources we use and which we do not
- We use: OpenStreetMap and the business's own public pages (website, Facebook, Instagram, Yelp, Booksy).
- We do not use Google Maps or Google Places as a source. We copy no data from Google, and our automated tests reject a listing whose source or website is a Google page.
- The "View on Google Maps" link on each card only opens a map search so you can get there. It is not where the data comes from.
Why a business is listed
- From OpenStreetMap: the cuisine tag says Latin American (Mexican, Dominican, Colombian and others) or the name is in Spanish. We leave out national chains without a Spanish name.
- For hand-checked listings: the business's source says the food or products are Latin American, its page is in Spanish or it presents itself as Latino-owned.
- Then we review the list by hand and remove doubtful cases. Today 9 businesses are out after that review.
- Each card says "Why it is listed" with the exact reason.
Extra details, only with a source
- Hours: only if we read them on a public page of the business. We show the day we checked and link to that page.
- WhatsApp: only the number the business itself publishes as WhatsApp. Languages and social links: only from its own source.
- If a detail is not verified, we leave it out. We do not invent phones, hours or coordinates.
What we do not publish
- Reviews, ratings or stars, because we have not verified them.
If you see a mistake
- Each card and business page has "Report an error": it opens an email to hello@swiftrep.io with the business and page filled in. We check it against the source and fix it.
